MENDOZA

Nearly two-thirds of all Argentine wine comes from this area. Part of the reason for its success is its climate – there are few extremes of temperature, so vines grow well. Luján de Cuyo is a department within Mendoza that became Argentina’s first appellation in 1993, and it and Maipú are Mendoza’s main wine-producing areas. Malbec grapes are particularly well-known in these areas.
